Courses
Classes at our partner schools run from Monday to Friday, starting on Mondays (except when Monday is a public holiday). Classes usually last between 45 and 60 minutes and the exact lesson length is given under each school's entry in our brochure/website.Every student, except complete beginners, will begin their course with a level assessment on the first Monday, after which they will be placed into a group suitable for their level.
Accommodation
Accommodation is usually allocated from the Sunday before a course starts until the Saturday after it finishes. Extra nights can be arranged according to availability and for an additional fee. There is normally a limit of 3 extra nights, after which an extra week price will be charged. Discounts can not be given to students spending less than 6 nights in their accommodation.Shared apartments provide basic self-catering accommodation for students at the language school. Sometimes students will have the option of sharing with local people (this will be stated when applicable).Studio Apartments are private, self-contained, fully-furnished apartments for one or two people.Host Families are carefully chosen by our schools and can be a married couple or single person, with or without children. Families often offer the option of 'Bed and Breakfast' (often noted as B+B and means that breakfast is included in the price), half board (breakfast and dinner included) or full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner included). School Residences can be big houses accommodating around 10-15 students or larger buildings housing hundreds of students. Residences often have a reception service and many offer accommodation on a bed and breakfast, half board and full board basis. They often also have catering facilities and other amenities, such as television rooms or internet cafes.Twin rooms normally imply two students sharing a room, with two separate beds. Some schools only allow two students travelling together to share a room. Please note that seasonal surcharges may apply to certain types of accommodation.
Changes to bookings by the studentStudents may, at the discretion of LSA, change details of their reservation or postpone their start date, provided that LSA receives written notice from the student at least 28 days before the start of the course. It is not possible to amend or postpone a course after the date on which a student is due to move into their accommodation or start their course. Amendments and postponements are subject to a €50 charge. However, LSA may withdraw this charge at their sole discretion, if the changes or postponement result in the extension or upgrading of a course or accommodation.
Other changes to bookings
If a student is unable to attend the course they have reserved because they are found not to have the appropriate language level after completing the initial level test, we will offer an alternative course, or private lessons. The number of private lessons may be fewer than the group course booked. LSA endeavours to ensure that our students receive the service and products that they book. We cannot, however, take responsibility for disruptions to study holidays resulting from forces out of our control (such as earthquakes, other natural disasters, strikes, or the breakout of war), the fault of the student, or the actions of a third party (LSA cannot accept responsibility for amendments to bookings, such as changes in arrangements for transport, tuition, accommodation, insurance or any other matters, where made by other parties).Lessons lost as a result of the above causes will not be recovered or refunds given.
Missed lessons and activities
There will be no classes on public holidays. Therefore, if a public holiday falls on a day or days during which a student is attending a course, they can expect to not receive lessons on that day. We have tried to indicate in our price lists the days on which public holidays fall. However, the public holiday dates that we provide in our literature and websites are subject to alteration by national and local authorities and should only be used as a guide. Lessons may be missed due to level testing and initiation activities on the first day of a course. In some schools, only the first lesson will be lost and in others a large part of the day may be dedicated to welcome activities. Lessons may also be lost at the end of a course due to evaluation tests. There will be no recuperation or refund of classes missed for the above reasons, unless otherwise stated.
Activities and Excursions
Information about activities and excursions offered at our schools should only be used as a guide and not as an accurate list of events. Please contact us prior to booking if you require specific information about any of our activities.
Cancellation by the Student
If this agreement is cancelled by a student, the following provisions apply:Cancellation must be made in writing to the LSA office. The day that notification is received in writing by the LSA office is the official cancellation day and the cancellation provisions laid out below will apply. All cancellations incur a loss of deposit. In addition, the following charges apply and are payable to LSA by the student:
- Cancellation up to 56 days before the start of the course: loss of deposit only.
- Cancellation between 55 and 28 days before the start of the course: 25% of the remaining cost of the course and accommodation
- Cancellation between 27 and 14 days before the start of the course: 50% of the remaining cost of the course and accommodation
- Cancellation between 0 and 13 days before the start of the course: 100% of the remaining cost of the course and accommodation
No refund shall be given after the day of departure or start of the course. If a new booking is made in place of the cancelled course, LSA may, at their sole discretion, withdraw certain cancellation charges.
Travel, Transfers and Visas
Our prices do not include flights or other transport to our schools. Students must make their own travel arrangements and are responsible for obtaining all neceLSAry travel documents, such as a valid passport and visa. We will, of course, be pleased to provide students with detailed advice on the best route to our schools. However, we do offer airport transfers in most locations, for an extra fee. We must receive full flight details at least 7 days before students are due to arrive in their country of choice. LSA will supply the neceLSAry documentation for students to obtain a visa, but are not responsible for a Consular authority's decision whether or not to issue a visa. It is the student's responsibility to allow sufficient time to obtain a visa and they should check with the Consular authority regarding how long this is likely to take.If a student is unable to attend a course due to being unable to obtain a visa, LSA will normally refund any fees paid, less the deposit, provided that the student can prove that they have been denied the visa due to reasons not within their control (allowing enough time for the application and completing the application correctly are considered the responsibility of the student) and providing that LSA are notified of this in writing no later than 2 weeks before the course is due to start. Otherwise, normal cancellation fees will apply. If documentation is denied due to reasons within the student's control (such as the student not possessing a valid passport, or other neceLSAry documentation or not allowing sufficient time for the visa to be issued), the standard cancellation fees will apply.
Complaints
If students feel they have genuine reason for complaint, they should mention this to the school abroad and to LSA as soon as possible. We will then respond to all reasonable complaints and we will do all we can to resolve any problems. We will not, unfortunately, be able to respond to complaints made to LSA after the student has finished their course, unless the school and LSA were notified of this complaint whilst the student was still attending the course and reasonable opportunity was given to the school and LSA to respond to this complaint whilst the student was still attending the course.
Our expectations
Students, and those accompanying students, are expected to behave in a courteous manner and to respect fellow students and staff at our schools. The illegal use of drugs, alcohol abuse and inconsiderate behaviour is considered unacceptable. LSA reserves the right to withhold courses and school accommodation from any student violating school regulations or generally behaving in an offensive manner towards others. LSA reserves the right to send home, without escort or refund, any participant violating the terms of this article. The return trip will be at the expense of the participant or their family.
Accuracy of information provided
Although every effort has been made to ensure that the information contained in our literature and websites is accurate, LSA does not accept any responsibility for errors or omissions. We are dependent on the information supplied to us by our schools and the authorities abroad, who are at liberty to make changes at any time. We therefore ask that you discuss with us any details which are of particular importance to you before you make your booking.
Travel Insurance.
As part of Lingo Study Abroad's booking Terms and Conditions, each student must have a valid travel insurance policy in force until after their course completion date.
If you have an existing policy, policy documentation will need to be provided to Lingo Study Abroad before your booking can be confirmed. If you do not have an existing policy, no problem whatsoever, one of our Language Travel Advisor's will assist you in getting the right level of cover at discounted rates.
Policy Extras
For either short trip, long stay or multi-trip, you must inform us if anyone in your party intends to take part in any winter sports or high-risk activities, as an extra premium may be required.
If you choose not to take out insurance with us we would strongly recommend that you check with your insurance company that you will be sufficiently covered for a language holiday.
